The 87th Masters starts this week at Augusta National – “A Tradition Unlike Any Other.” The first major of the year will be a battle over 72 holes on golf’s most lush and hallowed grounds. To celebrate another week of memorable moments and the green jacket ceremony, here is a hole-by-hole guide to Augusta National and 18 leading favorites and contenders who can challenge for this year’s Masters victory.

- Hole 1: Tea Olive – Par 4, 445 yards (Rank 6)
Rory McIlroy (+750): The 2022 FedEx Cup Champion is still shooting for his first Masters win. A green jacket completes the career grand slam for the 33-year-old Irishman and 4-time major winner (None since a pair in 2014). Six top-10 finishes in the Masters including 2nd last year but he never contended with a final round 8-under par 64 shooting him up the leaderboard. McIlroy has failed to shoot par or better in the opening round at Augusta in his last four appearances.
- Hole 2: Pink Dogwood – Par 5, 575 yards (Rank 18)
Scottie Scheffler (+750): Defending Masters champion and regained World No. 1 ranking following his win at the 2023 PLAYERS Championship. Scheffler won the green jacket and his first major in just his third start at Augusta and dominated the field after building a 5-shot lead into Round 3 Saturday and winning by 3-shots. The 26-year-old tall Texan is at the top of the sport.

- Hole 3: Flowering Peach – Par 4, 350 yards (Rank 14)
Jon Rahm (+850): Four straight top-10s at the Masters until fading to T-27 last year after shooting 77 on Saturday. Three wins in Jan. and Feb. along with two other top-10 finishes got the 28-year-old Spaniard and US Open champion back to World No. 1 until some struggles and sickness the past month.
- Hole 4: Flowering Crab Apple – Par 3, 240 yards (Rank 3)
Jordan Spieth (+1700): The 2015 Masters champion has been a major contender multiple times. A pair of runner-up finishes either side of 2015 included a major back-9 collapse in 2016. Spieth also has two other T-3 finishes. The second-youngest Masters champion turns 30 this summer, and the FanDuel Ambassador has the proven profile to cash-in for another high finish.
- Hole 5: Magnolia – Par 4, 495 yards (Rank 1)
Cameron Smith (+2100): Now playing on the LIV Golf Tour, Smith is not likely to be a fan favorite this year after winning the British Open last year before bolting to LIV Golf. The Aussie finished 3rd at Augusta last year and also has a runner-up finish in the 2020 Fall Masters and another top-5 in six career starts at Augusta.
- Hole 6: Juniper – Par 3, 180 yards (Rank 8)
Justin Thomas (+2100): Six straight top-22 finishes at the Masters for the 29-year-old 15-time PGA Tour winner Justin Thomas. That includes T-8 last year and T-4 in the 2020 fall Masters Tournament. Not as sharp early in 2023 and he’s dropped out of the top-10 world rankings. But Thomas is also a two-time major winner and still a major threat and good fit at Augusta now at his longest odds in the event.
- Hole 7: Pampas – Par 4, 450 yards (Rank 4)
Patrick Cantlay (+2100): Just one top-10 in six Masters starts including a pair of missed cuts for Cantlay. The 2021 FedEx Cup Champion has a pair of top-5 finishes this spring including at Augusta comp course Riviera. The 31-year-old is still shooting for his first major victory.
- Hole 8: Yellow Jasmine – Par 5, 570 yards (Rank 16)
Collin Morikawa (+2900): The 26-year-old 2-time major champion has made the cut in all three Masters starts including T-18 in 2021 and 5th last year. But he’s only shot in the 60’s twice in 12 rounds. Three top-6 finishes this year including at Riviera.
- Hole 9: Carolina Cherry – Par 4, 460 yards (Rank T-10)
Xander Schauffele (+2900): Both Schauffele and Day are contending dark horses who have the profile, stats and game to make a run at the green jacket. The 29-year-old Schauffele finished T-3 in 2021 and T-2 in 2019 in his second Masters start.
- Hole 10: Camellia – Par 4, 495 yards (Rank 5)
Jason Day (+2900): Day finished top-25 or better here four straight years from 2016-2019, including T-5 in 2019. He also finished T-2 on debut in 2015 the year he rose to No. 1 in the world. The 35-year-old major champion is one of the success stories of the season in his return towards the top with a rise up the world rankings from No. 112 to start the year to No. 33 currently. Day has been playing and performing at a high-level throughout 2023 with six-straight top-20 finishes including four top-10’s with one at comp course Riviera
- Hole 11: White Dogwood – Par 4, 520 yards (Rank 2)
Cameron Young (+2900): A new caddy on his bag at the WGC-Match Play event for last year’s PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Young missed the cut badly last year in his Masters debut.
- Hole 12: Golden Bell – Par 3, 155 yards (Rank T-10)
Tony Finau (+3000): Finau has made the cut in all five Masters starts with three top-10 finishes. That includes T-5 in 2019 when he played in the final group with Tiger Woods after shooting a sizzling 64 on Saturday. A regular contender in majors, Finau scored three Tour wins last year and has finished top-25 in all seven Tour starts in 2023. The 33-year-old has finished top-10 on the PGA Tour in 57 tournaments.
- Hole 13: Azalea – Par 5, 545 yards (Rank 17)
Dustin Johnson (+3200): Now playing on the LIV Golf Tour, the 2020 Masters champion in the fall event rose to World No. 1 in 2017 and remained there for 64 consecutive weeks. The 38-year-old Johnson has five other top-12 finishes at Augusta and The Masters since 2015.
- Hole 14: Chinese Fir – Par 4, 440 yards (Rank 12)
Max Homa (+3400): Now ranked No. 6 in the world after starting the year at No. 17, Homa has a win and two other top-3 finishes including at Riviera this year along with a T-7 at The Players Championship. His Masters scorecard is a bogey however with two missed cuts and a T-48 last year and only one round under par in eight career rounds at Augusta. Homa also has just one top-40 finish in 13 major appearances.
- Hole 15: Firethorn – Par 5, 550 yards (Rank 15)
Brooks Koepka (+3400): Four-time major champion and LIV golfer Brooks Koepka’s odds to win the Masters were +7500 less than a week ago, and now cut in half after winning the LIV Orlando event. He’s also down to 8/1 on the prop bet of top LIV golfer finish in The Masters. Koepka missed the cut at The Masters the last two years, but finished T-7 in 2020 and T-2 in 2019 for his best finish in seven career starts at Augusta.
- Hole 16: Redbud – Par 3, 170 yards (Rank 13)
Will Zalatoris (+3600): Will Z. nearly won the 2021 Masters in his debut and finished solo second. The sensational ball striker showed his skills and love for the layout again last year with a T-6 finish. The 25-year-old has now shot 6-of-8 rounds under par at Augusta National. His best finish this year is T-4 at Riviera and the Genesis Invitational.
- Hole 17: Nandia – Par 4, 440 yards (Rank 7)
Viktor Hovland (+3900): The 25-year-old Norwegian has made the cut in all three of his Masters starts with a best finish of T-21 in 2021. Hovland has shot 5-of-12 rounds under par at Augusta, but none in the 60’s. He also has five top-20 finishes in six starts this year on Tour with a pair of top-10’s including T-3 at The Players Championship.
- Hole 18: Holly – Par 4, 465 yards (Rank 9)
Sunjae Im and Sam Burns (+3700): Sunjae Im has 2-PGA Tour wins and 25 top-10 finishes on Tour (23% rate). The 25-year-old South Korean finished T-2 at the 2020 Masters in his debut, and T-8 last year after opening with a 67 but closing with 75 on Sunday. Sam Burns won the WGC-Match Play event last month, and also finished 6th at both Valspar and the Phoenix Open. But the 26-year-old 5-time PGA Tour winner missed the cut in his Masters debut last year.
Notable longshots: 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama (+4600), five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods (+7500), 2018 Masters champion and LIV golfer Patrick Reed (+7500), 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott (+9000).
