Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, Parineeti Chopra and more: Bollywood…

Like they say, ‘Every bride is a princess on her wedding day. She’s the center of attention, and everyone is there to celebrate her love story.’ While brides steal the show on their wedding day, every detail about what they do and how they chose to do it, is noticed. That’s more the case when it comes to celebrities as they also set major inspiration and goals for many others to follow. Most times, these choices also become a part of the popular culture. Hence, let’s take a look at some of these B-town beauties who made some unconventional choices for their wedding – be it their outfit or venue or rituals, they went a bit unique and that’s what made them beautiful!
Going eco-friendly!
There are celebrities like Dia Mirza and recently Rakul Preet Singh, who opted to have an eco-friendly wedding. Dia Mirza had said in an interview that all the decor elements at her wedding were natural and locally available. A lot of them were recyclable. Along with their wedding invite, they sent hand-crafted woven baskets from artisans in Meghalaya and sent everybody a plant. Recently, Rakul tied the knot with Jackky Bhagnani and they planted a sapling for each guest to reduce the carbon footprint.

Being comfy over glam!
Parineeti Chopra‘s wedding look was a talking point and some also wondered why the actress opted for a look which was rather simple. However, Parineeti’s stylists, Nidhi Agarwal and Shraddha Lakhani spoke to ETimes in an exclusive chat and revealed, “Parineeti told us, ”I want to have fun. Don’t treat me like a heroine. I don’t want anybody walking behind me, holding my veil, fixing my dupatta. Nothing doing. I want to be as comfortable as I can be. I will not wear heels for any of my functions. I will wear flats. It’s okay if I look like a bride’s maid and not the bride. But I want to be comfortable.” The stylists said that it was quite awesome on Parineeti’s part to not get bogged down by the expectations of being a celebrity but choose her own happiness and comfort over actually trying to make any point. Parineeti had Raghav Chadha’s name on her veil which was again quite unique.

Ditching extravagance for a cozy balcony wedding; saree over a lehenga
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor ditched those lavish wedding expectations. They didn’t spend a lot of money on a big venue, decor and going extravagant. Instead, they wanted to get married in the balcony of their house, where they were living in for five years before their wedding and create more memories there. The couple did set an inspiration for many – that weddings may not have to be all about going big, yet they can be simple and dreamy! Alia opted for an ivory Sabyasachi saree at her wedding so that it’s sustainable and can be worn again as well. She repeated her bridal saree when she got her first National award and that was also a inspiration for many young girls that it’s okay to repeat your clothes and it’s important to be sustainable.
In an interview with Vogue, Alia had said why she chose a saree instead of a bridal lehenga. She said, “You should celebrate the side of you that you feel is leading in that moment—whether that’s a saree, a super easy street-style vibe or an over-the-top gown.I believe the beauty of being a woman is that you can wear all these different clothes all the time. I can wear a pantsuit. I can wear a gown. One of the strongest aspects of this is that our wardrobe is so dynamic. I think that’s a great thing and one should celebrate it.”

Breaking stereotypes
They say that brides should not wear black during their wedding functions but Sonam Kapoor opted for a black and white striped lehenga at her reception. She chose to go different and broke this stereotype. Meanwhile, Dia Mirza called a female priest to conduct her wedding ceremony which was quite unusual. Many brides have also ditched the signature red bridal attire and opted for whites, pastels and pinks.

A 75-feet long veil
Priyanka Chopra had two wedding ceremonies – one was a traditional Hindu wedding and another was a Catholic wedding according to Nick Jonas’ culture. For her white wedding. PC opted for a veil which was 75-foot long and that in itself was quite an unconventional choice! Talking about it, Priyanka had said in an interview with NDTV, “It wasn’t about fashion. I wanted something unique. Both the dresses – red and white – were personalised for me… I wanted the longest veil in the world and I got that. The outfits were personal choices.”

Holding on to sentiments
Kriti Kharbanda recently tied the knot to Pulkit Samrat. The actress opted a pink lehenga for her wedding with intricate gotta patti work but this choice of colour had sentiments attached to it. Pulkit’s mom wanted to see his bride in this colour on their wedding and Kriti honoured her wish. Not to mention, for her ‘chooda’ ceremony, Kriti wore a ‘haar’ from her naani and her mom’s wedding dupatta. The actress made sure to not go modern like the current tradition but was more rooted and holded on to sentiments of their near and dear ones.
