Xiaomi is going against its early promise of 2 Android updates for the device and people are not happy with this change.
The Pad 6 tablet from Xiaomi will get a new HyperOS update this year
Xiaomi Pad 6 Android tablet was launched in India in 2023 and is officially eligible for two Android upgrades from the brand. But new details suggest the Pad 6 tablet will only get one major OS upgrade with the new HyperOS version from the company. The update has been shared officially to those who bought the Pad 6 tablet, who are clearly not pleased about the change in the strategy from the company. If you do a quick search for Xiaomi Pad 6 on social media, you will notice the anger among the users.
Xiaomi Pad 6: Why The Change?
Most Pad 6 owners say when Xiaomi promised 2 major updates how can they suddenly make this decision. And they are right in asking this question after spending their money on the product.
Xiaomi has moved away from the MIUI version to HyperOS in the last one year with all the existing models getting the new UI update. The Pad 6 will also get it, but only based on the Android 14 version. Having said that, it has been mentioned that Xiaomi will make sure that the Pad 6 users get all the new features with this update, similar to the HyperOS build based on Android 15.
The HyperOS 2 version will be rolling out around May 2025 which is still far away. Before that, Xiaomi Pad 7 will be launching in the market, which most likely will get Android 15 out of the box, which will anger people using the Pad 6 about the shelf life of their device in the next few years when the security updates also end for the model.
The fact that Xiaomi used a four-year-old Snapdragon 870 chipset to power the Pad 6 tablet could have something to do with the limited update roll back from the company. Either way, this is not ideal for the brand when people are buying their products knowing one thing and then later they realise the promises have been changed. Let’s hope this does not happen with the future Xiaomi products in the market.
