  • New York Times game Wordle appeared to have crashed this morning
  • Several frustrated users took to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the outage

Wordle is finally back online following a nine-hour outage that left users around the world unable to play the game.

Several frustrated users took to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the outage, with one claiming it had ‘ruined their morning’.

‘Wordle is down. My 12am ritual is in tatters,’ one user wrote, indicating that the game was down for hours.

MailOnline attempted to access the New York Times game, and found that the page would not load.

However, the game is thankfully now back up and running on both desktop and mobile.

WHAT IS WORDLE?

Wordle is deceptively simple; you have six chances to guess a five-letter word.

After each guess, each letter will turn green, yellow or grey, meaning:

Green: correct letter, correct spot

Yellow: correct letter, wrong spot

Grey: wrong letter

You can then use these clues for your next guess.

Since launching back in October 2021, Wordle has quickly become the go-to game for hundreds of thousands of eager players around the world.

The daily word game gives players six attempts to guess a five-letter word.

Feedback is given after each guess in the form of coloured tiles.

Green indicates that a letter is correct and in the right position, while yellow indicates that a letter is correct but in the wrong position.

It proved so popular that the New York Times announced that it had purchased Wordle in 2022 for an undisclosed, low-seven figure fee

While many loyal players still play Wordle every day, the game suffered an outage this morning, with the first reports coming in shortly after 00:00 GMT.

Taking to X, one user wrote: ‘Wordle being down has completely ruined my morning routine.’

Another added: ‘Wordle being down on day 200 of my current streak is CRUEL.

An error message simply read: ‘Timed out while waiting on cache.’
