A homeless man has been charged after a woman was ‘kidnapped and raped’ in a horrific attack.
Leon Svans, 27, has been charged with kidnap and rape following an incident in the Greyfriars area of Northampton.
Svans, of no fixed abode, was charged with two counts of rape and one count of kidnap after a woman was attacked on the morning of Friday, May 12, Northamptonshire Police have said.
Following the incident, the woman sought refuge at the Bonmarche shop in Abington Street where staff provided her with support before police arrived.
Svans appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
At court he was remanded into custody ahead of a plea hearing at Northampton Crown Court which is due to take place on June 27 of this year.
