Some films break the mould and then it becomes very difficult to follow up in their success. That’s been the story of sorts for Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, which released back in 2019. It’s been nearly 6 years since the hip-hop drama released and fans have been waiting for an update on the sequel. Well, our sources from the industry have given us a solid mic-drop moment. While things are not finalised yet, but it seems like the makers are in talks with Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday to feature in the sequel of Gully Boy.
That’s not all, the project has a director locked in, too. Our source revealed, “Arjun Varain Singh, who directed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan for Excel and Tiger Baby, is slated to direct the Gully Boy sequel. He’s confident that Ananya, who was his heroine in Kho Gaye, will be the perfect girl to lead the project. Vicky has been attached with the sequel for a long time now. Let’s see if all these three artistes can come together to recreate the magic of Gully Boy.”
Excited with this reveal, we wanted to know if the original film’s cast – Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Siddhant Chaturvedi – will reprise their roles in the sequel too. Our source believes that looks unlikely. But they did mention that the success of Gully Boy 2 could lead to a third instalment, where a likely reunion might be on the cards. The source maintained, “But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. That’s a possibility that’s way too uncertain right now.”
We’ve got our fingers crossed. We’ll be hoping that this sequel finally sees light of day and we get to watch Vicky Kaushal, Ananya Panday and Arjun Varain Singh create some celluloid magic.
