Will implement UCC in Himachal Pradesh if voted back: Amit Shah | Himachal-Pradesh…

NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced in Himachal Pradesh that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in the state if BJP is voted back to office.
Addressing an election rally in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, he said, “If you elect the Jai Ram Thakur government, I promise you that the common civil code will be implemented in Himachal Pradesh. No one can stop that.”
This comes comes along with BJP president J P Nadda, who on Sunday released the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra (manifesto)’, promising the implementation of UCC in Himachal Pradesh if the party comes back to power. A committee will be formed for the UCC, he said.
BJP recently announced the implementation of UCC in Gujarat too, where assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. Polls in Himachal Pradesh will be held in a single phase on November 12. Results of both elections will be announced on December 8. BJP had promised UCC before the assembly elections in Uttarakhand earlier this year.
Apart from UCC, BJP in its election manifesto for the hill state has also promised 33% reservation for women in government jobs, new educational institutions and a wide range of sops for various segments of the electorate.
At his second rally of the day here, Shah also promised to look into all irregularities in the salary system of government employees if voted back to power.
Taking a swipe at Congress, the BJP leader said the party has no credibility and its promises are like cheques drawn on an empty bank account. “When I was coming here, I saw a rally of one of the Congress candidates where ‘10 guarantees’ were written. Who will believe in your guarantees? There was the Sonia-Manmohan government at the Centre… they did corruption of Rs 12 lakh crore. And today they are giving guarantees to the innocent people of Himachal.” Shah said.
“Congress party leaders are roaming around in Himachal offering 10 guarantees. But guarantee holds value when given by person who has good track record of doing development works and who has some credibility. Why will anyone believe in assurances given by Congress party and its leaders? Congress has the track record of corruption and scam,” he added.
Shah said, “In our last manifesto we fulfilled around 94% of the promises in the past five years which we made to the people of Himachal.”
During a poll rally at Nagrota in Kangra district earlier in the day, Shah claimed BJP will win both lower and upper parts of Himachal. Traditionally, Congress has been a strong contender in the upper parts of the state. He said time has come to change the so called “electoral tradition” in Himachal.
