The year 2021 has now begun and several big-ticket films are eyeing a theatrical release in the coming months. But, while theatres have opened up once again, producers have to completely rethink their promotional and marketing strategies. During an interview with a leading daily, a trade analyst revealed that Bollywood should take inspiration from the industry down south for attracting an audience back to theatres.

He stated, “I really think we need to take some inspiration from superstars down South and focus on reaching out to the common man and the lowest common denominator. We have to try to get more footfalls and be back in the context of consumption. The first thing in this direction would be to let go of the extravagance. A lot of vanities had kicked into the whole marketing and PR ecosystem and the focus was lost from reaching out to the moviegoers. I truly believe that with the changing times, the marketing and PR will definitely re-innovate.”

Recently, Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi’s Master hit the screens and has managed to attract a large number of cinemagoers back to theatres. Do you think Bollywood will be able to replicate this?
