Do you know that 19 years ago there was a film that made it to the big screen and featured Sanjay Dutt? The movie was made for Rs 13 crore, but it became a huge flop.

Sunny Deol’s Jaat has finally hit the big screens. The highly-anticipated film has been raking in money. However, do you know that 19 years ago there was a film that made it to the big screen and featured Sanjay Dutt? The movie was made for Rs 13 crore, but it became a huge flop and did not even earn back its budget.

Yes, you read that right! Sanjay Dutt’s action-drama was released in 2006, called Sarhad Paar. Helmed by Raman Kumar, the film featured Sanjay Dutt, Tabu, Mahima Chaudhary, Chandrachur Singh, and Rahul Dev in key roles.

In the film, Sanjay Dutt plays the role of Major Ranjit Singh. The high-octane drama flopped badly on the big screen. Made for Rs 13 crore, the film only earned Rs 96 lakh and could not even recover its cost.

Chandrachur Singh was completely removed from all the publicity, and Rahul Dev was given more priority. This was done due to the producers feeling the audience would know the film was long in the making if they saw Chandrachur Singh on the posters.

According to media reports, no channel had bought the rights to Sanjay Dutt’s film. The movie was released four years ago. However, it couldn’t be released on the big screens. The producers did not want the audience to watch 1971 first because if that happened, then no one would be interested in watching Sarhad Paar.

Though the movie turned out to be a huge flop, Sanjay Dutt’s character garnered a lot of praise. The audience was split—while some liked Dutt’s character, others did not feel Sanjay Dutt was fit for an Army character.
