WhatsApp Channels will look tidier thanks to this update.
WhatsApp now automatically organises a channel’s media files into a single album, as seen in the latest beta on Android. Here’s what we know.
WhatsApp is known for frequently adding new features, thereby improving the overall user experience. And now, the Meta-owned app is introducing another change in the form of an automatic album creation feature for channels. This specific change, observed by WABetaInfo, is present in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.26.16 update.
The feature works when channel admins share multiple images and videos in their specific channels. WhatsApp now automatically organizes them into a single album. Later, channel members can easily tap it to access all the media files.
While this may seem like a common feature that has existed in chats and groups for years, it was notably absent in channels. With this update, media organization in files is now much clearer. The functionality works similarly to personal chats or groups.
Who Is It Rolling Out For?
WABetaInfo notes that this feature is currently available only for some beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta (v2.23.26.16) from the Google Play Store on Android. It is not clear when this feature will be included in a public release, making it accessible to everyone.
Nevertheless, this is a welcome addition that will allow media-heavy channels to appear clearer, reducing unnecessary confusion.
In related news, WhatsApp is also testing a new reply bar for status updates. This feature, currently in beta, allows users to easily interact with another user’s status update. Because it is consistently visible, it may increase interaction, eliminating the need to swipe up to access the reply menu. In a way, this is quite similar to Instagram, where you can directly reply to stories. It will be available for both Android and iOS users.
