Vin Scully inspired baseball fans of all ages, and sports fans around the world. His passing Tuesday at the age of 94 has brought an outpouring of support and respect for the legendary baseball broadcaster. On Friday, Aug. 5, the LA Dodgers will hold a pre-game ceremony ahead of their game against the San Diego Padres celebrating Vin Scully.
The Dodgers announcer for 67 years will also be honored with the team wearing a commemorative black patch that will have a microphone and “Vin” on the uniforms.
Born in the Bronx, Scully became the voice of the Dodgers at age 25. First in Brooklyn, and then in Los Angeles when the team moved in 1958. He inspired sports fans through generations, and his communication and leadership skills are lessons for business executives.
“Vin Scully’s grace, class, storytelling ability and vast knowledge about baseball are without question. But it was his sense of confidence, which was lacking in ego, that I think resonated and inspired so many people,” Dick Grove, CEO and founder of INK Public Relations, said.
The true essence of Vin Scully.
Next week I’ll be in Los Angeles, and plan on walking down Vin Scully Way ahead of the Dodgers-Twins game.
Dodgers Run to the NL Pennant and World Series Odds
The Dodgers enter Thursday’s game against the Giants with the best record in baseball at 71-33. Los Angeles is 3-0 in August and have won 7-of-8. Dodger Blue is on a winning run of 26-5 since June 29. While the Dodgers are often big favorites on the moneyline in their games, bettors who play the run line (-1.5 runs) to reduce the price to more favorable odds have been rewarded as 13 of the last 14 Dodgers wins have come by a margin of at least two runs.
In fact, 35 of the Dodgers last 39 victories have come by two runs or more. But the Dodgers have also suffered 20 losses in their last 61 games, and in half of those losses they have been at least a -200 favorite.
Even with a number of injuries to their pitching staff this season, LA still boasts the best Earned Run Average in baseball at 2.95.
The Dodgers have been a World Series favorite all season, and currently sit at +350 to win the 2022 World Series. The NL West rival Padres (61-46) are now +1000 at FanDuel Sportsbook with their odds slashed from +3000 just two weeks ago before San Diego made huge moves and player additions at this week’s trade deadline.
Now the Padres have won five straight games to set up a special weekend of baseball at Dodger Stadium while celebrating and honoring Vin Scully.
A World Series victory parade down Vin Scully Avenue would bring another outpouring of celebration to generations of fans who have reveled in how much Scully and his words meant to the City of Angels.
You can bet on it.
