CHENNAI: Actor and TVK president Vijay on Friday regretted that the BJP-led NDA govt, which did not bother to control violence in Manipur, is ruling the country.
Speaking after releasing a book on architect of the Constitution B R Ambedkar here, Vijay continued his tirade against both NDA govt at the Centre and the DMK govt in Tamil Nadu.
He cited the Vengaivayal incident in the state (where miscreants dumped human faeces into an overhead tank that supplies water to scheduled caste people) and charged that the DMK govt, which boasts of protecting social justice, has not made any breakthrough in the case.
“We have to raise our voice. Crimes against children and women are on the rise. The solution is simple. We have to elect a govt which loves people and protects them,” he said.
Vijay claimed that VCK president Thol Thirumavalan could not participate in the function to release a book on Ambedkar owing to pressure from the senior alliance partner. “I understand the pressure exerted on him (Thirumavalan) not to participate in the function. But I am confident that his entire mind will be here,” he said.
Retired Madras high court judge justice K Chandru received the first copy in the presence of Ambedkar’s grandson Anand Teltumbde and others.
