Vidya Balan pays timeless tribute to M.S. Subbulakshmi’s iconic style


Actress Vidya Balan, in collaboration with costume designer Anu Parathasarathy, has recreated the iconic style of Bharat Ratna M.S. Subbulakshmi. Celebrating the legendary singer’s 108th birth anniversary, this tribute reminds us of Vidya’s inimitable grace and elegance.

Vidya’s admiration for M.S. Subbulakshmi started in her childhood, and this project is a heartfelt homage to her musical and stylistic legacy. Vidya shares, “For me, M.S. Subbulakshmi is a spiritual experience. This tribute is a labour of love.”

Guided by M.S. Subbulakshmi’s family, Anu Parathasarathy meticulously recreated the singer’s iconic sarees and minimalist accessories. M.S. Amma’s signature kumkumam, vibhuti, nose pins, and jasmine-adorned bun were beautifully brought to life. Each saree mirrors the intricate patterns that made her a fashion icon from the 60s to the 80s.
