Vicky Kaushal once expressed his regret over rejecting this blockbuster
The 2018 released Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, is till date fans favourite. The second installment of the horror comedy which released in 2024, emerged to be a juggernaut at the box office. However, many won’t know but Vicky Kaushal was the first choice to play Stree’s lead protagonist. But, Kaushal refused the film, and eventually the role fell into Rajkummar Rao’s lap.
During an appearance on Neha Dhupia’s show Vogue BFFs, Vicky was asked to name a film that he regret passing on. He responded, “Stree, that was because I was doing Manmarziyaan.” While Vicky was praised for his hardcore Punjabi boy appearance in Manmarziyaan, the film did not perform well at the box office. Meanwhile, Stree became a turning point in Rajkummar Rao’s career, making him a bankable star in Bollywood.
Moreover, its sequel Stree 2 emerged as a massive success at the box office, earning over Rs 800 crore. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film also starred Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi in key roles. According to reports, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe will be releasing the third installment of Stree theatrically on August 13, 2027.
