The film industry mourns the loss of Veteran actress Sulochana Latkar as she passed away today at the age of 94. She was battling prolonged respiratory illness and several other age-related issues and took her last breath at Shushrusha hospital in Dadar.
Sulochana Latkar, known by her screen name Sulochana, was a well-known actress who had a vast career in both Marathi and Hindi films. She was most known for her performances in Marathi films such as Sasurvas (1946), Vahinichya Bangdya (1953), Meeth Bhakar, Sangte Aika (1959) and Dhakti Jau (1958) in the lead roles. In Hindi films, she had made a name for herself doing mother roles. She had said in an interview that she loved playing mother to three actors – Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna. Her famous Hindi films include Sujata (1967), Johny Mera Naam (1969), Kati Patang (1970), Azaad (1978) and many more.
The actress was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999. She was the recipient of the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the Filmfare Awards Marathi last year for her outstanding contribution to Marathi cinema. In 2009 she was also honoured with the Maharashtra Bhushan Award by the Government Of Maharashtra.
She is survived by her daughter Kanchan Ghanekar.
