Vera Wang Bride Unveils New Collection For 2023, Champions Freedom And Joy

Vera Wang Bride, the diffusion line by Vera Wang in partnership with bridal giant Pronovias, has unveiled its second collection championing freedom and joy. The new 2023 range, set to launch on November 29 in-store and online, consists of 54 bridal looks that are modern, sophisticated, and with a fashion-forward edge.

“I’m not very bridal.” Wang says during a telephone interview three days before Thanksgiving. Known as the one who changed how brides dressed forever, the iconic bridal designer says: “I was after all an editor of Vogue, and I see fashion. I was never designing wedding dresses with tradition in mind.”

In contrast to Vera Wang Bride’s first collection, which, according to Wang, was “very Bridgerton — very British — dark, mysterious”, the new season emanates a notably uplifted and carefree attitude.

“This [collection] is influenced by the party dress worn by Hailey [Bieber] at her wedding to Justin. She is modern, effortless, never forced — she’s just a very cool girl.” Speaking of her designs for the new 2023 range, Wang refers to the minimal charmeuse gown with crisscrossing back straps she created for Bieber’s nuptial, which instantly became one of the most coveted and imitated bridal looks. “I want my bridal designs to be fashionable like the clothes you see on the runway — but without excluding the classic or gown moment.”

The 54 new looks are just as how Wang intended them to be: cool, hip, joyful, and significant — “what I tried to do this time is creating accessories that can personalize your wedding dress when and how you want.” Says Wang. “I put what’s going on in the streets in my design, it just felt relevant to me.” Hi-lo and bustled skirts, bustier tops wrapped in romantic Chantilly lace, crop top paired with floor sweeping train, and deconstructed ball gowns mixed with oversized ribbon or bowtie details — the line closely follows Wang’s philosophy: delivering the fashion-centric bridal looks that also have an element of RTW for those special moments.

“I have to say that with this particular collection there is a new sense of freedom,” Wang elaborates. “I wanted to step it up a little bit in terms of the concept because I think it’s a young world today and we are living in a joyful, happy, and celebratory moment.”

With on-trend elements including detached sleeves made of Mikado satin or delicate lace, playful thigh-high slit in billowing skirts, see-through panels and lightweight tulle draping over mini dresses, Wang wants the collection to be about these gentle moments in life. “It’s about skin. It’s about fun. It’s about everything that I think young people are feeling right now.” Wang adds.

In line with Pronovias Group inclusivity policy that applies to all the brands in its portfolio, all the Vera Wang Bride 2023 dresses are available in a range of sizes from 32 to 64 (US size 0 to 32).

“Women right now are reconsidering what bridal means,” says Wang, referring to the current mood for unorthodox looks and “secondary” bridal dresses for the wedding celebration. “I think we’ve done everything possible to create a wide range of looks with this collection, which I hope will appeal to so many different brides everywhere.”
