She became an overnight star and worked with the biggest superstars of Bollywood. She quit acting after marriage and now…
There have been many actresses in Bollywood in the last few decades who have impressed the audience with their beauty and talent. However, when it comes to longevity, actresses’ film careers were not as long as those of actors. Today we will talk about one actress who was able to make a big name in Bollywood without any godfather. She made her debut in 1983 with Manoj Kumar’s production Painter Babu, but she reached the heights of stardom with her second film itself.
After 1983’s Hero, she became an overnight star and worked with the biggest superstars of Bollywood. From Amitabh Bachchan to Mithun Chakraborty, Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol and Govinda, her chemistry with these stars was so natural that she became the first choice of many film makers. However, her smooth Bollywood career was derailed due to her argument with a director.
We are talking about actress Meenakshi Seshadri who gave many hits including Meri Jung (1985), Swati (1986), Dilwaala (1986), Dacait (1987), Inaam Dus Hazaar (1987), Parivaar (1987), Shahenshaah (1988), Mahaadev (1989), Awaargi (1990), Jurm (1990) and Ghar Ho To Aisa (1990). Seshadri’s consecutive hit films made her a tough competition for hit actresses like Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Kajol and Juhi Chawla.
Meenakshi Seshadri’s career turned upside down
In 1990, Meenakshi worked with Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi in Ghayal. Both films were blockbusters, with the first being praised as a powerful woman-oriented film. However, during the shooting of Damini, Raj proposed to Meenakshi for marriage, but she rejected his offer. When Raj tried to convince her, they had a fight.
As a result, Raj decided to remove her from Damini and agreed to cast another actress. However, after the intervention of the Cine Workers Association, she was reinstated in the film. Later, they worked together again in Ghatak. It was one of the highest-grossing films of 1996. This was her last film, as she moved to the United States after marriage.
In 1995, Meenakshi retired from acting and married investment banker Harish Mysore. They had a registered marriage in New York. She then moved to Plano, Texas. The couple has two children, a daughter Kendra and a son Josh.

What does Meenakshi Seshadri do now?
Meenakshi used to run her own dance school in Carrollton called Cherish Institute of Dance. The school was known as “an assembly of talented dancers, a voluntary body to enhance multiculturalism, revealing the best talent of people of all ages.” In an old interview with Bollywoodjournalist.com, Meenakshi said, “It was not all that easy for me to settle down in the US.” As she mentioned in the 2004 interview, “Belonging to a very Indo-centric background, life abroad shook me.”
