If you’re somewhat bewildered as to where in the world you can travel right now, you have plenty of company. While international travel is inching back to life—Europe is poised to reopen to tourists next month, for example—an ever-changing barrage of government recommendations and country restrictions makes the idea of planning a long-awaited vacation a daunting prospect at best.
Enter www.canitravel.net—a comprehensive, user-friendly guide to Covid-19 travel restrictions worldwide—to the rescue. The concept is simple: on the homepage, simply input your nationality/residency, departure country, destination, and vaccination status in the search bar, and voilà—your proposed destination appears, coded with one of three traffic lights (green: open; orange: open with restrictions; and red: closed) and accompanied by a slew of helpful information including applicable travel advisories, local COVID-19 statistics, internal travel restrictions, etc. All data sources are also included.
Canitravel.net is the brainchild of three Italian entrepreneurs—Filippo Galli, Fred Balzi, and Giorgio Motti—who conceived the idea in March 2020. Childhood friends from the Adriatic coastal town of Riccione and longtime globetrotters who left home years ago to explore the world, they were living abroad in Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam (respectively) at the onset of the pandemic. Frustrated by canceled flights and disrupted travel plans, they thought a website that would serve as a reliable guide to Covid-19-era travel restrictions would benefit their friends and family, as well as countless hodophiles like themselves. The site launched last May, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors since; the cofounders plan to launch travel advisory services in the coming weeks.
Below is canitravel.net’s latest list of countries open to vaccinated travelers as of May 10, as well as others opening imminently (the site also includes all relevant destination information for unvaccinated travelers). Restrictions change virtually daily; please visit the site for updates.
