The Oscar nominations are finally out, and India is all set to make a powerful statement on the global stage once again! The buzz is real as the short film Ahuja, backed by Guneet Monga and Priyanka Chopra, has earned a prestigious nomination for the 97th Academy Awards.

The announcement was made via The Academy’s official X (formerly Twitter) account under the category of Nominees for Live Action Short Film. Out of the 180 films that qualified for this category, only five films made it to the coveted list. Ahuja joins Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent in the race for the Oscar.

This marks producer Guneet Monga’s fourth nomination, following her previous nods for The Elephant Whisperers (2023), Period. End of Sentence (2019), and Kavi (2010). The talented producer continues to make waves in international cinema!

Take a look here:

The announcement immediately sparked excitement among Indian audiences. One fan proudly tweeted, “Ahuja is an Indian short film!” Another user expressed frustration, commenting, “Why are they joking about Adderall abuse like it’s funny? It’s a serious issue.” Meanwhile, one netizen cheered on, “Indian representation, let’s go! Guneet Monga Kapoor with her 4th nomination for Ahuja—hoping she gets her hat-trick win this time.”

Conan O’Brien will be hosting the 2025 Oscars, his first time in the role. The 97th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2, 2025. Stay tuned as we cheer on Ahuja and celebrate Indian cinema on the world’s biggest stage!
