Let us tell you, we are talking about Dangal fame Suhani Bhatnagar. She made her acting debut in the 2016 film Dangal at the age of 10, portraying the young Babita Phogat. Though her screen time was brief, she left a lasting impact on the audience. Bhatnagar worked closely with Aamir Khan and Sakshi Tanwar. Her portrayal of young Babita, alongside Zaira Wasim, who played young Geeta Phogat, took the audience’s breath away.
However, on February 16, 2024, when news broke that Suhani had passed away at just 19, it left everyone in deep shock. She succumbed to Dermatomyositis, a rare inflammatory disease. Her family revealed that the 19-year-old began showing symptoms two months ago but was diagnosed with the disease only ten days ago.
Coming to Dangal, the movie still holds the record for being the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever. Made on a budget of Rs 70 crore, the movie minted Rs 2,024 crore worldwide, making it one of the most loved films in the country. Furthermore, the movie also became the highest-grossing Indian film in China, earning over $117 million (Rs 1,305 crore), surpassing all other non-Hollywood foreign films in the Chinese market.
Aamir Khan’s Dangal was based on the life of Mahavir Phogat and his daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat. The film portrays Mahavir Phogat’s struggle against societal challenges to train his daughters as wrestlers.
The movie also featured Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as the elder versions of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, respectively.
