Nikki Haley launched a political action committee in January, after years of speculation about a possible 2024 presidential run. She quickly found a handful of deep-pocketed supporters. Within six months, 16 billionaires and 7 spouses of billionaires donated to her group, called Stand For America.
Officially, the PAC is supposed to be focused on electing conservative candidates in the 2022 midterms. Unofficially, it may serve as something of a bellwether for a potential presidential bid two years later. The early data suggests that Haley, whose group is only allowed to raise a maximum of $5,000 annually from each donor, could be a favorite among wealthy Republicans. Eleven of the billionaire donors who donated to Haley’s PAC had previously supported Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign. One of them, SPAC investor Chamath Palihapitiya, gave to Joe Biden’s effort last year.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal earlier this month, Haley, who previously served as South Carolina governor and ambassador to the United Nations under Donald Trump, made it clear that she was waiting to see whether her former boss might run as well. “In the beginning of 2023, should I decide that there’s a place for me, should I decide that there’s a reason to move, I would pick up the phone and meet with [Trump,]” she said. “I would talk to him and see what his plans are. I would tell him about my plans. We would work on it together.”
In the meantime, here are the 23 billionaire donors who have already opened their wallets for Haley’s PAC, listed in alphabetical order.
