Sunil Kumar Jakhar has offered to resign as BJP’s Punjab chief, a year after he was appointed to the position.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Punjab chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar has offered to resign from his post, sources have said. According to the details, Jakhar has not been attending any of the party’s meetings, including the one to finalise the party’s strategy for the upcoming panchayat elections.

This comes nearly a year after Jakhar was named BJP’s Punjab chief.

Elections to over 13,000 gram panchayats in Punjab will be held on October 15 and the votes will be counted on the same day at the polling stations.

According to the election schedule, the filing of nominations will commence on September 27 and October 4 will be the last date.

While Jakhar was with the Congress, he had submitted his resignation as the party’s Punjab chief multiple times, after he had lost the 2019 Gurdaspur Lok Sabha election to actor Sunny Deol.

He joined the BJP in May 2022.

The BJP did not win any seat in the Lok Sabha elections this year and the party lost the Jalandhar byelection also.
