Earning The Southwest Companion Pass
To get the Southwest Companion Pass, you must get approved for one of Southwest’s three consumer credit cards and complete the qualifying activities. All three cards have the same bonus: earn a Companion Pass plus 30,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. The Companion Pass is valid through February 28, 2024.
The three consumer cards that are eligible for this promotion include the following:
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card: 7,500 Annual Bonus Points; $149 annual fee
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card: 6,000 Annual Bonus Points; $99 annual fee
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card: 3,000 Annual Bonus Points; $69 annual fee
Note that the consumer cards are available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. However, this does not apply to Business Card and Employee credit card products.
The Southwest Companion Pass
As mentioned above, the Southwest Companion Pass allows you to bring one designated traveler with you when you fly. All they have to pay is the taxes and fees, which start at $5.60 each way. Plus, this promotional pass is good through the end of February 2024, giving you and your lucky guest a year to enjoy these perks.
Usually, Southwest flyers can earn the Companion Pass by making 100 one-way qualifying flights (or 50 round-trip qualifying flights) or earning 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.
Once you earn the pass, it is valid for one whole calendar year (January-December) after you meet the requirements, plus the remainder of the calendar year in which you earned it.
So, if you earned the standard Companion Pass in June, you could use it for the rest of the year plus the following year. The sooner you earn the pass, the more you can maximize the benefits.
