New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi, who was named as the Interim President of the Indian National Congress after Rahul Gandhi stepped down in 2019 citing Lok Sabha elections defeat, is likely to resign from the post, as per sources.
The reports come amid the announcement by the AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal that said a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will take place on August 24 which has fuelled up the speculations that the committee is going to take a call on Congress presidentship.
The CWC which is the highest decision-making body of the party will meet at 11 AM via video conferencing and might also discuss on making Rahul Gandhi as the Chief again who had resigned in July 2019 saying, “Rebuilding the party requires hard decisions and numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019. It would be unjust to hold others accountable but ignore my own responsibility as President of the party.”
Sonia who is the longest serving President of the party, having been elected since April 1998 is also the Chairperson of the Coordinating Committee of the ruling coalition, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
