Synopsis
This journey to space and nuclear technology started 50 years ago when two friends — PR Reddy and KSN Reddy — quit their jobs as engineers at Hindustan Machine Tools to start MTAR (an acronym for Machine, Tool, Aids, Re-conditioning). Soon after, PR Reddy’s brother PJ Reddy joined the team to helm the financial and commercial side of business.
Sriramulu Reddy still remembers the day when a PSLV rocket of the Indian Space Research Organisation thundered away from the Sriharikota launchpad in March 1996. His sense of achievement soared as an engine manufactured by his team at MTAR Technologies powered the launch vehicle to space.Reddy was anxious all through the countdown phase, till that final moment when the engine revved up to foment “90 tonnes of thrust” that propelled the rocket
