Sky turns green in South Dakota, residents capture rare phenomenon; see pictures – Green sky | The Economic Times

Residents of South Dakota were left surprised when they witnessed a celestial phenomenon a few days back– green colored sky that looked like a scene from a sci-fi movie. People captured incredible pictures and shared them on social media platforms.

​'Derecho' storm
The reports by the National Weather Service suggested that the sky turned due to the type of wind storm we call ‘derecho’ that comes with rapidly moving showers and thunderstorms.

Unique green color
Peter Rogers, a meteorologist with the Weather Service’s office in Sioux Falls told New York Times, “I think it caught a lot of people’s attention because the sky did have that very unique green color to it”. He further explained that though green skies are an indication of strong hail, though for this particular storm we witnessed in South Dakota that was not the case.
