This was Gill’s third century in four innings this season, solidifying his position as one of the top performers in the tournament. With this incredible knock, he has now amassed over 800 runs in the 2023 edition of the IPL. Alongside the eight sixes, Gill also struck four boundaries in his whirlwind innings.
By achieving this feat, Gill joined an elite list, becoming only the second player after Michael Klinger to score three centuries in four T20 innings.
He reached his century with a single off Cameron Green in the 14th over, becoming the seventh player to score a hundred in IPL playoffs. Notably, at the age of 23 years and 260 days, he became the youngest player to achieve this milestone.
Gill finally fell for 129, off 60 balls, in the 17th over to pacer Akash Madhwal with Tim David taking a catch at deep mid-wicket. Gill smacked 10 sixes and 7 fours during his valuable knock for the Titans.
His century off 49 balls also places him among the fastest centuries in IPL playoffs, sharing the record with Wriddhiman Saha (2014 final) and Rajat Patidar (2022 Eliminator). Additionally, Gill’s three centuries in the season place him just behind Virat Kohli (4 centuries in 2016) and Jos Buttler (4 centuries in 2022) for the most hundreds in an IPL season.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first in the crucial playoff encounter.
