Sea, sand, and sun—it is no secret what draws guests to the breathtaking views of Turks and Caicos. And here at COMO Parrot Cay, the blue ocean looks even bluer. The sand feels even softer. The sun beams down even stronger. All the shades, scenes and sounds are supercharged, applified to perfection in this northern Caribbean paradise.
Parrot Cay is 1,000 unspoilt acres of verdant nirvana and a mile-long stretch of white powdered beach. It’s hard to think of somewhere more spectacular to sit back and unwind.
Founded on a simple need—a hotel in which the owner Christina Ong herself would want to stay—COMO Hotels and Resorts started in London in 1991. Ong sought something intimate with a stylish approach where the service was intuitive, discreet, and accurate, and where the food was fresh and healthy. This was long before every resort offered vegan and sugar-free alternatives. Where hotels proffered chic reusable glass bottles in the place of plastic and large refillable toiletries instead of travel minis destined for landfills.
The concept was a hit. And after London’s stylish Belgravia came Parrot Cay, the brand’s first private island resort, in 1998. A focus on conservation and a commitment to the environment and sustainability have been present since the COMO brand launched, with well-established programs to conserve the remarkable biodiversity of the island and reduce the hotel’s environmental footprint.
The resort and the destination as a whole are designed for unhurried ambles along the white sand beach and lengthy sun-filled lunches. There is little noise, pollution or boat traffic and few distractions, beyond the well-thought-out itineraries of complimentary yoga and Pilates; complimentary non-motorised water sports; Catamaran sailing; windsurfing; kayaking; paddle boarding; waterskiing; tennis matches; cycling and more.
There are also ample opportunities to explore the lush surrounds through resort-organised sunset cruises, snorkelling trips, island hopping, private boat charters, and picnics on secluded islets.
Back at the resort, the spa is a place of dreams, offering restorative massages, acupuncture, anti-ageing treatments, and Ayurvedic therapies. Beyond the well-honed list of treatments, the surrounding vegetation and views across the mangroves offer an ever-increasing wow-factor.
COMO Parrot Cay is a haven. With 74 rooms, accommodations vary from large private villas to beach and garden views in elegant multi-storey buildings. The interiors are calm and serene, perfectly fitting of the beachy and placid surrounds.
It’s not about trying to reinvent everything all the time. Instead the classic teak and whitewashed finishes are both timeless and effortless. The spaces feel homey but also elevated, while furnishings range from antique to bespoke, store-bought to artisan made. And there’s a distinct focus on natural ingredients—bleached-wood floors, polished stone, and breezy linens.
Villa bathrooms are huge, with rain showers, rollaway tubs, and double vanity units. Or rinse under a canopy of green jungle leaves in the outdoor shower. And then wind down in the large open-plan dinning room and conservatory or sink your toes in the sand venturing beyond the spacious deck and heated plunge pool.
There are bars beside each of the two restaurants—the poolside Lotus Restaurant and the more formal one Terrace Restaurant. Light fare can also be served on the sun loungers that surround the beach-fronted lido deck.
Dishes are elegant, healthy and memorable—fresh fish tacos served with a tangy salsa on the side, sublime sushi, and fragrant coconut curries that melt into the tongue.
Drinks are muddled with fresh herbs and thick slices of lemon freshly plucked off a nearby citrus tree. Food can also be served in the room but meals are perhaps best enjoyed under the canopy of stars as the tide shifts and the sun turns from golden to night. And from that moment, there’s not much left to do but to look around and take it all it, registering how there’s nowhere on earth more magical to be.
