SCO Meeting 2023: PM Modi says SCO must not hesitate to criticise countries supporting…

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that some countries use cross-border terrorism as an instrument of their policy and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) must not hesitate to criticise them.
“Some countries use cross-border terrorism as instrument in sync with their policy. SCO must not hesitate to criticise such countries,” PM Modi said while virtually addressing the SCO summit.
Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping were among those who were present at the summit hosted by India.
Continuing his attack against those countries which support terrorism, PM Modi said, “It has become a threat to regional as well as global peace. There is a need for decisive action to deal with terrorism”.
“We have to fight together against terrorism that may be in any form and any manifestation,” the Prime Minister added.
Chairing the meeting virtually, PM Modi said that in the past 20 years the SCO has emerged as an important platform for peace, prosperity and development in Eurasia.
The Prime Minister said that India has made efforts to take its multi-faceted cooperation with SCO to new heights. “We do not only see the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) as an extended neighbourhood, but rather as an extended family. As chair of the SCO, India has made efforts to take our multi-faceted cooperation to new heights,” PM Modi said.
He also expressed happiness on Iran joining the grouping. “I am happy that Iran is going to join the SCO family as a new member,” PM Modi said.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also virtually participated in the SCO meeting.
