After advancing past the Sweet 16 for the first time in their school’s history, the San Diego Aztecs are set to face one of the sports most storied programs in tonight’s NCAAB Championship Game.
While this may be unfamiliar territory for the Aztecs, a win would see the UConn Huskies take home their 5th National Title.
Current NCAA Basketball odds side with the UConn Huskies as the -7 point favorites, a relatively short line when considering that the team’s five tournament wins have come by an average of +20.6 points.
San Diego State hasn’t enjoyed the same fortune, with both their Final Four and Elite Eight wins coming by a single point.
The betting total is offered at 131.5 points, with both teams having rewarded under backers in recent outings. UConn has failed to top the mark in 7 of their last 9 games, with San Diego State delivering unders at an astounding 17-5 rate over their last 22 matchups.
Still, consensus reports show that bettors are siding with the over with 58.7% of the money suggesting that the duo will surpass the 131.5 mark. 55.2% of wagers are siding with the Huskies to cover the 7 point line, with 78.5% of the money backing a 5th title for the UConn squad.
“We are in a position tonight where we will be needing the Aztecs from our future position and the game,” shared BetOnline.ag oddsmaker Adam Burns. “I was pretty 50/50 but the UCONN money won’t stop coming and to be honest I am not excited about this position”

Simply put, the Huskies are stacked top to bottom and the team has managed to cover the spread in all but one of their last 11 games. Ranking 3rd in adjusted offensive efficiency and 8th in defensive efficiency, UConn’s well balanced attack has allowed them to dominate and limit the most talented teams in the country.
This balance was most evident in their wins over the top ranked offense in Gonzaga and 6th ranked Miami, where the Huskies held both squads under 60 points while managing to score 72 and 82 points of their own in back-to-back efforts.
It is easy to cheer for the Aztecs in this situation, but they are simply no match for the talent that the Huskies pack on both ends of the court. While their defense is commendable, UConn’s weapons will find ways to exploit gaps and lapses in coverage.
With San Diego State narrowly avoiding tournament exits in their last two matchups, expect the team’s offensive weaknesses to take center stage tonight as UConn slowly mounts a lead and progressively pulls out of reach.
The Huskies have proven that they can create problems for the country’s best shooting teams, and I fully expect that trend to continue tonight as the Aztecs struggle to mount a formidable offensive counter.
Bet UConn -7 and sprinkle a bit on the Under as the Aztecs fall short in helping the dup top the 131.5 mark.
