Saffron-only decorations in temple: Vijayan’s colour blind order

Saffron-only decorations in temple: Till the recent past, the dominant dispensations of the day created a living hell-hole for the workers and voters of saffron party or ‘Hindu’ outfits in Kerala. Now, it seems that the hatred towards the symbols of these ‘Hindu outfits’ and Hinduism have reached its pinnacle.

The recent case is a glaring example of Kerala CM Vijayan’s political meddling driven by the hatred towards saffron – widely touted as the colour having political overtones of national political party, BJP and social outfits like RSS and ilk.

Recently, the Kerala police department directed the temple authorities in Thiruvananthapuram’s Vellayani to stop using the saffron-coloured decoration to lighten up and beautify the Bhadrakali temple festival.

The Police had further pressured the temple authorities to use multi-coloured decoration instead of ‘Saffron-only decorations in temple.’

The Temple authorities accused the ruling CPI(M) government of wanting to destroy Hindu customs and rituals. Several devotees accused the administration of needlessly creating hurdles to torment and crush the religious rituals, practices and to ascertain that they are subduing these believers to bring them into the political folds of the current dispensation.

These orders infringing the religious rights of Hindu devotees led to a widespread protest which later on went into the Kerala High Court.

Recently, the Kerala High Court cracked a whip on the state government’s desperate measure to politicise administrative machinery.

In its judgement, the Kerala High Court lambasted the state administration and categorically ruled that they can’t insist on using only “politically-neutral colours” and let these rituals be left for the devaswom board to decide.

The judgement stated, “Police or district administration cannot insist that only politically-neutral colours should be used for decorations as part of a temple festival and it is the duty of the devaswom board to conduct the festival as per custom, rituals, and practices.”

A division bench of Justice Anil K Narendran and PG Ajithkumar made these remarks while considering two petitions that had challenged the controversial orders of the district magistrate. Reportedly, one petition was filed by the temple advisory committee, while the other was moved by a devotee.

Furthermore, it is also a tight slap to all those who try to appropriate colours to a particular religion as every colour have great significance in Hinduism and that is the undeterred truth of this civilisation.
