BJP Bihar united expressed grief over the passing away of Sushil Kumar Modi.

In a long heartfelt X post in Hindi, PM Modi condoned his party colleague and remembered Sushil Modi’s role in GST implementation

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi passed away on Monday amid the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections, the party said.

Modi lost his life to cancer at 72. He died at AIIMS in New Delhi at 9.45 pm, hospital sources said.

“The BJP family is deeply saddened by the news of the demise of former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and former Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sushil Kumar Modi,” the state unit of the party said in a post on X.

“This is an irreparable loss for Bihar and the entire BJP family,” it added.

Several political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee, expressed condolences on the passing away of Modi, which created an atmosphere of sorrow in the political arena.

“I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Sushil Modi ji, my valuable colleague in the party and my friend for decades. He has played an invaluable role in the rise and success of BJP in Bihar. Strongly opposing the Emergency, he made a name for himself in student politics. He was known as a very hardworking and sociable MLA. He had a deep understanding of the issues related to politics. He also did a lot of commendable work as an administrator. His active role in the passage of GST will always be remembered. My condolences are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief,” PM said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his deep sadness at the demise of Sushil Kumar Modi.

“I am saddened by the news of the demise of our senior leader Sushil Kumar Modi ji. Today Bihar has lost a great pioneer of politics forever. From ABVP to BJP, Sushil ji has adorned many important positions in the organization and government,” Shah posted on X.

BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda also joined his party leaders in condoning the death of Modi.

“From the Vidhyarthi Parishad till now, we have worked together for the organization for a long time. Sushil Modi ji’s entire life was dedicated to Bihar. Sushil Modi ji’s efforts have been very helpful in bringing Bihar out of jungle raj and putting it on the path of development. His absence is an irreparable loss for countless workers,” said Nadda in an X post.

From the opposition camp, RJD leader and former Deputy CM of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav was quick to react to his Bihar colleague’s demise.

“I am extremely saddened to hear the news of the untimely demise of the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, our guardian, struggling and hardworking leader respected Shri Sushil Kumar Modi ji. May God grant a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet and provide strength to the family and well-wishers in this hour of grief,” Yadav wrote on X.

TMC Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, wrote, “Sorry to hear about the sad demise of Shri Sushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family & friends. May the departed soul rest in peace.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief over the loss of his party’s veteran leader adding that Sushil Modi’s long public life was dedicated to the service of the people and the welfare of the poor.

“I am deeply saddened by the demise of former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and senior party leader, Shri Sushil Kumar Modi. His long public life was dedicated to the service of the people and the welfare of the poor. He worked hard to make the party strong and popular in Bihar,” Singh wrote.

Other BJP leaders including Kiren Rijiju, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Syed Shahnawaz Hussain also paid their tribute to their party leader.

Last month, the BJP leader had taken to X to announce that he was diagnosed with cancer and will not be able to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections.
