Ryoko Yonekura and Yu Shirota collaborate for first time on stage in ‘SHOW TIME’

Two of Japan’s top-talented artists, Yu Shirota (城田優) and Ryoko Yonekura (米倉涼子) will collaborate for the first time on the entertainment show, “SHOW TIME.”

It will be the artists’ first co-production and on-stage collaboration, so many are excited to see the results.

The new entertainment project will take place this month, and the idea came from the wish of giving respect to the Broadway artists and shows that suffered because of the pandemic.

Originally, Yonekura played Roxie Hart in 2008 and 2010, in the Japanese version of the musical “Chicago,” and after learning the part in English, she made her debut on Broadway in 2012. On the other hand, Shirota starred in the Japanese version of the musical “Pippin” in 2019.

The late Bob Fosse choreographed both of the shows above. He is also the one who directed many musical projects and films, including “Cabaret” in 1972, which won him the Academy Award for Best Director.

Besides “Pippin” (1972), “Chicago” (1975), and “Cabaret” (1972), Fosse also directed “All That Jazz” (1979) that won him the Palme d’Or one year later at the Cannes Film Festival.

The two actors, Yonekura and Shirota, both have in common the two projects choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.

In their new collaboration project, people will get to enjoy Fosse’s works and musicals, including “Chicago,” “Pippin” and “Cabaret.”

“SHOW TIME” is now a hot topic in Japan; besides the two renowned artists, well-known guests such as Win Morisaki (who played in the American film “Ready Player One”), JKim, Mie Nakao, and Beverly Maeda will make an appearance in the project.

The entertainment show has a cast of around 33 members, including dancers and musicians.

There will be seven performances per total from June 23rd (Wed) to June 27th, 2021.
