Rohit Shetty has recently disclosed that it was on Shah Rukh Khan’s advice that he included Honey Singh’s song Lungi Dance in Chennai Express.
In a recent conversation with a leading news portal, Rohit Shetty revisited the past and discussed his partnership with singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh for the popular song Lungi Dance. The filmmaker revealed that the song, which achieved great success and later topped the charts, was actually added to the film Chennai Express at the last minute.
He said, “Honey and Shah Rukh met and then SRK called me up to say, ‘Ek gaana hai…tune, wo sunna hai kya? I think it’s superb’. It was only then that I requested Honey to add this song to the film.”
The director of Golmaal also mentioned that when he first heard the song, he had some concerns. As a result, he advised Honey Singh to make some changes to the lyrics. Rohit explained that as a filmmaker who understands his audience’s preferences, he was uneasy about a specific line in the song which goes, “Coconut mein vodka milake.” He felt uncomfortable with the use of the word “Vodka” in the song.
In the end, it was modified to “Coconut mein lassi milake.” Rohit shared that Honey then remarked, ‘Isse zyada main shareef nahi ho sakta aapke liye.’ However, he expressed contentment with the song’s outcome, and it gained immense popularity among the fans. Shetty humorously mentioned his concern about the line, considering the presence of many children in the audience for his films.
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is currently busy with the shooting of Singham Again which stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Jackie Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor. He has also made his OTT debut with the web series Indian Police Force, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Vivek Oberoi, released on January 19, 2024.
