Richard Hannon claims Happy Romance is more than ‘a flash-in-the-pan’ after convincing victory in the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes
- Happy Romance landed her owners a bumper pay day at York
- The filly held off favourite Devious Company to win by a length and a quarter
- Happy Romance proved her stamina by stepping up to six furlongs for first time
Trainer Richard Hannon believes Sean Levey-ridden Happy Romance can make the grade at a higher level after adding Thursday’s Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes to her victory in the Weatherby’s Super Sprint at Newbury in July.
Hannon said: ‘She is not a flash-in-the-pan two-year-old. We’ll be looking at the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes and the Group Three Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr might be the race for her first.’
Happy Romance held off the late attention of favourite Devious Company on Thursday
The Cheveley Park is also the likely target for Miss Amulet, trained in Ireland by Ken Condon, after she cut down favourite Sacred to win the Lowther Stakes by a length.
Meanwhile, Christophe Soumillon will ride Clive Cox’s Coventry Stakes winner Nando Parrado in Sunday’s Group One Prix Morny at Deauville.
