Even now, years after Raj Kapoor departed for his eternal home, he is regarded as a highly prominent actor, filmmaker, and producer. The superstar, who was dubbed the Charlie Chaplin of Indian cinema, amassed several awards during the course of his career. Renowned actor-director Ranjeet, who is most known for playing evil roles in films, talked about his first encounter with Raj Kapoor in his studio in the latest interview. According to Ranjeet, RK Studios has life-sized cutouts of the leading ladies from his flicks. He also talked about how modest Raj Kapoor was and complimented his corny appearance.

Speaking to ANI, Ranjeet said, “When I entered the studio (RK Studio), I saw life-size cut-outs of all the actresses who starred in his (Raj Kapoor’s) films. The minute he (Raj Kapoor) entered, he was like, ‘Sorry Ronny ji!’ He was an extremely good-looking man. He had a fair complexion, and his cheeks were red. He had light eyes.”

Later in the same interview, Ranjeet revealed that Raj Kapoor used to force a heroine from ‘Mera Naam Joker’ to sit on his lap as he described the scenarios. “Mera Naam Joker picture thi na… uski heroine ko god mein bithakar scene samjhaaya hai. He wasn’t being flirtatious while doing so. He would call the actress ‘putar’ (daughter) when he asked her to sit on his lap.” For those who don’t know, the movie starred Dharmendra, Padmini, Simi Garewal, Manoj Kumar, Kseniya Ryabinkina, and Rishi Kapoor in significant parts.

Ranjeet on Bollywood Parties in The 70s

Ranjeet recollected in the same interview what it was like in Bollywood at the time and how everyone would come to his Mumbai home to celebrate. He said, “My parents lived in Delhi and I lived in Juhu, so everyone would gather there in the evening. There were no inhibitions or formalities or whatever. Reena Roy would make paranthas, Parveen Babi would make drinks, Moushumi Chatterjee would make fish, Neetu Kapoor would make bhindi, it used to be that kind of atmosphere.”

People like Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Sanjay Khan, Feroz Khan, Dharmendra, and Shatrughan Sinha,  would all be there at these get-togethers at his house, revealed Ranjeet. “People like Rajesh Khanna would drink one-two bottles in a night, ” added the veteran star.
