The ongoing farmers’ protests have shaken up the country and eminent names from different industries are coming out to speak up about it. The most vocal supporter proved to be Diljit Dosanjh who not only spoke for the farmers on social media but even joined the protests and donated a sum of Rs. 1 crore.
Reacting to the situation, Priyanka Chopra too posted in solidarity. She shared Diljit’s tweet about the protests and wrote, “Our farmers are India’s Food Soldiers. Their fears need to be allayed. Their hopes need to be met. As a thriving democracy, we must ensure that the crisis is resolved sooner than later.” Other actors like Swara Bhasker, Angad Bedi and Ritesh Deshmukh also applauded and spoke for them.
The farmers are protesting the three bills passed by the central government that affect the pricing and contractual selling of crops every year. The bills are Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020.
