Param Bir Singh, the tainted former Mumbai Police Commissioner who created ripples across the political landscape of Maharashtra by writing an explosive letter alleging that former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was involved in a massive Rs 100 crore extortion racket, is now waiting to face the music himself as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government gears to throw him under the bus. The MVA has ordered its own enquiry against Singh.
Before resigning from his position, Anil Deshmukh on April 1 ensured that he initiated an order of hitjob/probe against Singh. According to media reports, senior IPS officer Sanjay Pandey has been tasked to conduct the inquiry and it is being reported that if anything remotely incriminating is found, a department inquiry could be ordered which might ultimately lead to Singh’s axing.
While at the outset, the focus of the probe is to ascertain how officers like suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Waze, currently under the custody of NIA for the Antilla Bomb scare went rogue while working for Param Bir Singh — however, if Uddhav Thackeray led MVA’s track history is any indication, it is a dead giveaway that the probe is intended to sacrifice Singh and remove some of the heat coming the government’s way.
Pandey has been also asked to probe if by going to the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court seeking a CBI inquiry, Singh has flouted service rules. Lastly, the probe seeks to find if Singh provided the government all relevant information about the Ambani incident. The order added that Pandey has all the necessary powers to call witnesses and record their statements.
Once a trusted confidant of Anil Deshmukh, Param Bir Singh had moved to Supreme Court for a comprehensive CBI probe into Deshmukh’s numerous acts of alleged corruption and criminality after dropping the letter.
Singh in his explosive letter had said, “At one of the briefing sessions in the wake of the Antilia incident held in mid-March 2021 when I was called late evening at Varsha to brief you (referring to Uddhav Thackeray), I had pointed out several misdeeds and malpractices being indulged into by the Honourable Home Minister. I have similarly briefed the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party, Shri Sharad Pawar and other senior Ministers also about the misdeeds and malpractices. On my briefings, I noticed that some of the Ministers were already aware about some aspects mentioned by me to them.”
And it’s not only Param Bir Singh that the unholy ‘three-party alliance’ is coming after. Reported by TFI, the Maharashtra government is crafting strategies to go after the whistle-blower IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla who blew the lid on the IPS and non-IPS officers transfer racket by tapping the phone calls of the ministers.

With each passing day, Anil Deshmukh and Uddhav Thackeray are finding themselves in murky waters. The duo has single-handedly brought down the reputation of a police force that was once regarded as the ‘most professional police force’ out there. There is no doubt that MVA is going to pool its complete arsenal of resources to take down Singh who still has the firepower to hurt Uddhav Thackeray and his reign of anarchy.
