Opinion | The Times Endorses Joe Biden, and Readers Applaud

To the Editor:

Regarding the editorial board’s endorsement of Joe Biden for president of the United States (“Elect Joe Biden, America,” Oct. 7):

I want to thank The Times for this thoughtful and accurate assessment of the candidate and the broader context of this race. Clearly, former Vice President Biden is the best choice to help heal our country, which is ailing not only from our mismanaged response to the pandemic but also from the self-inflicted wounds of the relentless politically motivated hate, duplicity and selfishness that have been the hallmarks of President Trump’s misguided leadership.

Mr. Trump has weakened the United States economically, socially and in terms of national security. Another term under the catastrophic Trump presidency would plunge our country into has-been status or worse and open the door for a dictatorial China to assume the position of the world’s leading superpower.

We are facing many momentous challenges over the next few years. Our country and the world need to see the United States back in the game. The choice will be ours to make through the ballots we cast and those that are counted.

To the Editor:

I have eagerly awaited this expected endorsement. The reasons to elect Joe Biden became even more essential after these past few days. America’s future and the future of our leadership in the world depend on it. President Trump has displayed a callous disregard for both.

Joe Biden, his words, his actions, his honesty, his plans, his hopes and his determination to respect the responsibilities of the office of president of the United States are our only hope to return to the promise of life, liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness for all.

So, thank you, editorial board, for your strong endorsement.

A grateful reader.
