The Tokyo Olympics has been in full swing, with many milestone firsts including weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz bringing the Philippines its first Olympic gold after 97 years, and gymnast Sunisa Lee being the first Hmong American to win an Olympic gold.
Omega, the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, brings this spirit to Miami, transforming the open space of the Design District’s Jungle Plaza into a replica of the pool— complete with starting blocks, lane dividers and aquatic flooring— as a special venue to celebrate the games. Flash-mob style performers as swimmers, golfers and runners will be popping up on weekends, until August 8.
At the Omega boutique, an exhibit entitled “A Journey Through Time” is running until August 29. It showcases brand’s history of timekeeping and pursuit of innovative technology. Upon entering the boutique, visitors are greeted with an abstract display of an original Omega starting block before being treated to an underwater view of a swimming race in progress, with sounds from the pool creating a sensory event in the boutique’s elevator.
The second floor of the boutique features an immersive experience for visitors to learn about the brand’s role as Official Timekeeper, through unique installations that tell the story of their 89-year long history. One such installation is the Vintage Timepiece Exhibition, which includes one of the first starting pistols used by Omega.
The Omega Olympic Pool art installation at Jungle Plaza runs until August 8. “A Journey Through Time” at the Omega boutique runs until August 29.
