Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s Hum Aapke Hai Koun remains one of the most beloved films in Hindi cinema history. Till date, the film’s songs, its story, and the chemistry between Prem and Nisha has fans swooning. Recently, director Sooraj R. Barjatya took a trip down memory lane on Indian Idol and shared back stories about the evergreen film. He shared that Madhuri Dixit was not the first choice for the role of ‘Nisha’ as he initially considered Karisma Kapoor for the character.
Sooraj Barjatya wanted to cast Karisma Kapoor instead of Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hai Koun
Yes you heart it right! After watching Karisma’s performance in Prem Qaidi, Barjatya was so impressed by her that he wanted to cast her in Hum Aapke Hai Koun. While returning home, he spoke to his father about the same and said, “She has a lot of ability. We are still in the writing stage of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun,’ and we need to cast someone for the role of Nisha.”
However, her father Rajkumar Barjatya, wasn’t sure about the same and felt that Karisma was too young for the role. He pointed out that she had to accept Mohnish Bahl’s children on-screen, which might be a huge responsibility for her, as she looked quite young. He referred, “Let’s take someone who can carry that weight on her shoulders.”
Ultimately, the role of Nisha landed in Madhuri Dixit’s kitty and her portrayal became one of the best performances of her career. Years later, even Karisma admitted that she would loved to play the role of Nisha in Hum Aapke Hai Koun, if she was in her right age.
