Apple is happy to partner with OpenAI, Google and more companies

Apple confirmed its deal with OpenAI at the WWDC 2024 last month and soon it could have Google signing up with Gemini AI for iPhones.

Apple will be adding Google’s Gemini AI along with ChatGPT for iOS 18 this year as per reports. The company has confirmed that it would partner with OpenAI and add ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, for the operating system. Apple also revealed that they would not limit themselves to just ChatGPT and soon bring more options for other chatbots to other versions of the operating system.

According to Bloomberg, Google’s Gemini AI will also be integrated with iOS 18, which will be rolled out later this year. Apart from that, the tech giant might also introduce Anthropic’s Claude AI to its smartphones. The report has revealed that if the timing is right, Apple might be able to offer both Gemini and ChatGPT by the time Apple intelligence is completely rolled out.

Notably, there were some reports that suggested iPhone makers might delay some of the AI features by late 2024 or early 2025. These AI features that might be delayed by the end of 2024 will be included in the Mail app and Swift Assist for Xcode. It has also been found that most of the AI features of Siri will only be available in 2025. The report has also confirmed that Apple was never in talks to integrate Meta’s Llama 3 into iOS 18, despite several reports suggesting the same.

Additionally, it has been found that the US-based tech giant has plans to introduce a subscription model for its AI tools and features in the future. Initially, Apple has plans to offer these tools and features for free on iOS 18-supported devices. However, later, they will charge for them as they have a long-term plan to monetise these AI features that will be available on Apple.
