According to reports, the actor got fascinated by the world of cinema, just when he started watching the legendary actress Suraiya‘s work on the big-screen. He was so mesmerised by her beauty that he watched her film Dillagi an astonishing 40 times. He would even travel miles to another city to just watch her films. Dharmendra’s admiration for Suraiya knew no bounds. He was captivated by her on-screen presence and irresistible charm.
Born on 15 June 1929 in a Muslim family in Punjab, Suraiya worked with almost every actor but her pairing with Dev Anand was widely admired. She was an actress and a playback singer too. She acted in over 70 films and sang 338 songs.
According to reports, Suraiya and Dev Anand loved each other and wanted to get married, but her family was against this marriage. Unfortunately, she didn’t marry anyone throughout her life, but Dev Anand moved on, and tied the knot with Kalpana Kartik in 1954. The yesteryear actress passed away on January 31, 2004, due to multiple health ailments.
