Not as saintly as it seems

Swami Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, the outspoken Mahant (Head Priest) of Dasna Temple had recently been in the news after Muslim clerics took out rallies one after another, seeking to behead him for his ‘controversial’ remarks. Naturally, a faction of enraged Hindus and conservative groups started standing in solidarity with Yati Narsinghanand. However, as it turns out, Narsinghanand is not as saintly as it was made out to be or he pretended to be.

In a video that has gone viral on social media platforms in the last couple of days, Yati Narsinghanand can be seen foul-mouthing and hurling abuses at the Yogi Adityanath government and simultaneously disparaging the Hindus who support PM Modi.

In the video, Yati Narasinghanand can be heard saying, “These officers have made a fool out of the political leaders. If the figures of UP come out in the open, people will be shell-shocked. (Inn afasro ne saare netao ka #%&*$*$ bana diya hai. Agar UP ke aankade saamne aa jaaye to logo ka dil dehal jaayega)”

The motormouth priest added, “Modi bhakts have social media where they dominate the space. Hindus are so deluded that they only have to bootlick their political leaders.(Asal me baathai, Modi bhakto ke pass social media hai. Social media pekabza, Modi ke samarthkokahai. Maine to saare group dekhne chhod die kyuki jitney bhi Hindu hai vo itne paakhandi hai, ki unhe sirf apne neta ki chamchagiri karni hai.”

Delhi BJP Spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga took to Twitter to expose Narsinghanand and remarked that this was the reason he did not support him. He tweeted, “Many people asked me why I never tweeted in Support of Yati Narisinghanand. This is the answer.”

Yati Narisinghanand’s style of criticising and foul mouthing the powers at the centre and state is eerily reminiscent of political parties like Samajwadi Party (SP) whose leaders routinely take filthy jibes at Yogi and Modi. And it doesn’t come as a shock that Saraswati has been part of SP in the past. According to a Print report, Narsinghanand is a Russian-educated engineer who has worked in Moscow and London and claims to be a former member of the Samajwadi Party.

As reported by TFI, on April 9, consequent to the Friday prayers, a sea of Islamists gathered at the Islamia Ground in Bareilly, demanding action against Yati Narsinghanand. Amid the slogans calling for the beheading of the priest (Gustaakh-e-rasool ki ek se saza; sardhar se juda, sardhar se juda), the clerics gave speeches asking for his arrest.

Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati was speaking at an event held at the Press Club of India where he had called upon Hindus to be fearless in speaking about the characteristics of Prophet Muhammad. He said, “If Islam’s reality, for which Maulana says, ‘If you speak about Muhammad, we will behead you’, Hindus should get rid of this fear. We are Hindus. If we can speak about the characteristics of Lord Ram, and other Hindu deities, then Muhammad is nothing for us. Why could not we speak about Muhammad and speak the truth?”

TFI has reported that Yati Narsinghanand faces an imminent threat to his life by Islamists and that if sufficient security is not provided to him, a re-run of the Kamlesh Tiwari killing cannot be ruled out.

However, those blindly supporting Yati Narsinghanand and wanting him to be the face of Hindutva should pipe down and understand that he is just a political pawn, installed by vested interests groups to besmirch the Hindus and take political digs at the top political leadership of the country. His life, like an ordinary Indian, is precious and should be protected at all costs but other than that, he is an inconsequential, abusive middle-aged man who wants to stay in the limelight.
