Nintendo Switch 2 is a widely anticipated gaming product which could have an earlier launch date as per new reports.
The start of 2025 has come with some exciting news about the next Nintendo Switch console. A new report suggests the Nintendo Switch successor could be announced in March. The timeline is anticipated to signal the start of the distribution of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, according to a report in the Italian daily UAGNA. The details are consistent with Nintendo’s announcement that the Switch replacement will be unveiled within the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31.
The report quotes an unnamed source, saying the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on March 28. “According to our source, on that date, the distribution of Switch 2 accessories made not only by Nintendo but also by third-party companies is expected, among which the steering wheels for JoyCon already leaked in recent days on the web will probably also find a place,” the report stated.
“We can therefore infer that March 28, 2025, will also be the release date of Switch 2, with Nintendo therefore following the publication and distribution table of the past generation,” the report adds.
Nintendo stated earlier this year that by the end of March 2025, an announcement on the Switch 2’s replacement would be made. “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furkawa had stated in May.
Although Nintendo revealed in November that the Switch 2 would be backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch titles, official facts about the device are limited. Additionally, the Japanese company said that the Nintendo Switch 2 would support Nintendo Switch Online, a subscription service for the Switch that offers cloud saves, online multiplayer, and a library of some older console games. “Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date,” Furukawa had stated during a November company briefing.
The design and specifications of the Switch 2 have also been leaked in recent weeks. A Reddit member claimed to have handled the device firsthand and later, sent The Verge pictures of the Switch 2. The person stated in December that the Switch 2 would include magnetic Joy-Con controllers, which would solve the stick drift problem that the hybrid console is notorious for.
Although the hybrid console itself is rated for 45W, the leak also stated that the Switch 2 would include a more potent dock than its predecessor, rated for 60W. If these figures are accurate, they would be better than the Nintendo Switch’s power consumption of about 18W from its 39W AC adapter.
