New Lord of the Rings films are in the works at the studio behind the original LOTR trilogy. The films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s popular works that brought Middle-earth to the big screen. These were followed by Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit films.
Warner Bros. Pictures announced that the studio is joining hands with New Line Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises to make movies that will be a part of the Lord of the Rings universe. Currently, it is not known which storylines the films will pick up. However, we do know that the films will adapt from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit books instead of The Silmarillion. So it’s safe to assume that we’ll see familiar characters and plotlines considering that the book has several aspects that haven’t been adapted on the big screen.
So far there is no information on directors and possible casting choices for the upcoming LOTR projects.
Tolkien’s works were last adapted for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The series helmed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay featured a sprawling cast including Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Maxim Baldry and others released in September 2022. The next instalment of the show is currently in production.
