Zaira Wasim made the headlines when she made her big debut with Aamir Khan in Dangal. She went on work in movies like Secret Superstar and The Sky is Pink, proving that she’s got what it takes from a very young age. But right before her last film released, she announced that she will be quitting acting as it clashes with the ideologies of her life and faith. While we do not see this actor on the big screen anymore, she was pretty active on social media and her last tweet sparked some fire that made her quit the medium all together.
Reacting to the news of the locust swamp hitting the country, Zaira tweeted a few lines from the Quran. She posted, “So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance- a people given to sin -Qur’an 7:133.”
Following this, she was mercilessly trolled for being insensitive to people’s loss that was caused by the swamp. Not reactive to this verbally, Zaira took the decision to quit social media to avoid any negative interaction. The young actress instantly left Twitter and Instagram without any further discussion.
But the matter did not end here as people came forward to defend her last tweet and said that it was a quote from her religion scripture and did not desensitise anything. They even went on to start a trend, #StandWithZaira to support her and spoke of how she is free to express her views in such matters.
Well, we hope she reconsiders and returns to social media soon.
