Nepal Map Dispute – Nepal is on back foot now over map dispute in which it was showing some parts of India in Nepal territory

Nepal is now on the back foot due to a dispute over the map of parts of India. Nepal has taken this step on its behalf to create an atmosphere of bilateral dialogue with India. The Indian Foreign Ministry had sought to create an atmosphere for dialogue with Nepal.

Nepal has decided to step back amid a rift in political and diplomatic relations after publishing a new map covering some of India’s terrain.

In fact, to add the new map released by Nepal to the country’s constitution, a proposal for a constitutional amendment was to be proposed in Parliament today, but the Government of Nepal on one occasion removed the proceedings of the constitution amendment from the agenda of Parliament today.

Nepal has given an example of diplomatic maturity by not presenting the new map in Parliament. When Nepal showed Indian territory in its new political map, India responded by asking Nepal to respect India’s sovereignty.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava had said, “We appeal to the Government of Nepal to refrain from publishing such artificial cartographic, while also respecting India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
