The eye-catching carpet, created locally by Neytt by Extraweave, a business owned by the third generation of a family that has been producing floor coverings in Kerala for more than a century, was woven using natural fibres.
For the Met Gala, a carpet roughly 7000 square metres in size was created. The sisal fibre, which comes from the Agave plant’s skin, is used to make the carpet. The carpet is made from the finest Madagascar-sourced fibres. 70 days of arduous labour resulted in the completion of the carpet construction. American artisans created the blue and red patterns on the sisal-fibre carpet. Making the carpet, including the stripes, took 100 days. The S-shaped lines pay homage to the year’s theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, by reflecting the widely held theory. Famous English painter William Hogarth popularised the Line Of Beauty style, which has curving S-shaped lines.
The 106-year-old family firm has also given carpets to the White House, Buckingham Palace, numerous celebrities, five-star hotels, and other locations.
