This popular TV personality is widely recognised after appearing on a business show. Can you guess who she is??
Namita Thapar has become a household name, not just as a judge on Shark Tank India, but more importantly as a highly successful entrepreneur. As the founder of the Thapar Entrepreneur Academy, she is an inspiration to countless individuals, showcasing her bold approach to both business and life.
In addition to her entrepreneurial achievements, Namita holds influential positions on several prestigious boards, including the India Regional Advisory Board at Fuqua School of Business and TiE Mumbai. She is also an active member of the Young Presidents Organization.
Namita’s influence extends beyond India to global platforms like Harvard Business School, IIM Ahmedabad, and the ET Women’s Conference, where she shares her insights on business, resilience, and innovation.
A graduate of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, she is also a Chartered Accountant from ICAI. Her career took off when she worked as the Business Finance Head for Guidant Corporation in the U.S. for six years. This role paved the way for her entry into Emcure Pharmaceuticals, where she climbed the ranks to become the Executive Director.
Namita’s ability to simplify complex business terms like EBITDA and equity has resonated with audiences from all walks of life, from schoolchildren to corporate executives. As she says, “We have simplified it through story-based understanding.”
Today, Namita is one of the wealthiest women in India, with a net worth of Rs 600 crore. She lives in a luxurious Rs 50 crore home in Pune and enjoys a lavish lifestyle, from her Rs 20 lakh designer shoes to her impressive collection of cars, including a BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Audi Q7.
Despite facing controversies over the years, Namita has made waves with her strong opinions on the 70-hour work week. On Shark Tank India, she argued that such demanding hours are only feasible for founders who hold a significant stake in the company, not for those without the same level of investment. She further clarified her stance on a podcast, saying, “As founders, we work over 20 hours a day because we hold 80 percent of our company. My accountant in finance, though, does not have such a motivation.”
Her sharp wit was evident when she humorously commented in another interview, “Change India: Go for a 140-hour work week. But don’t marry or have kids—you owe them your time too.”
Namita Thapar’s journey is a testament to ambition, resilience, and staying true to one’s values. Whether in the boardroom or on the screen, she continues to inspire a new generation of dreamers and achievers.
